Sujata Sethi.
A 6 cu meter
biogas digester was built as a part of SHAMA WELL bio
cooperative program, funded jointly by a SHAMA WELL loan and
ADIRE. Sujata Sethi and another SHAMA
WELL woman, Bishnupriya Pati, managed the
program from construction of the digester to its
operation. Construction was completed in
April 07.
For its initial operation ADIRE
spent 1 truck load of manure, and after that manure for
the digester is collected from SHAMA WELL women who have
taken loans for cows. The digester was operational from
July 07. Till now the gas is used for preparing two meals
daily for AdiVidya Mandir school children.

#220 Annapurna Mahrana.
Annapurna
purchased a cow with the loan. Starting in Oct 07, she
started repaying her loan by selling milk to
Adividya Mandir school, and has
paid about 10%. The cow is expecting a calf now, so her
milk has dried up. As a result, Annapurna has to wait a
few more months to continue to payments. She also sells
manure to the village biogas digester which supplies
meals to Adividya
Mandir school kids.

About 70 women have received loans through
SHAMA WELL. All of these loans have either been repaid in full within the time
limit allotted, or are still within that time limit and have been paid
partially. The rate of repayment is an indicator of the women's success in
earnings. These loans have been used for a wide variety of purposes, as can be
seen on the page linked just below.
